7-Day East Java Trekking & Adventure Itinerary

DAY 1: SURABAYA – MOUNT BROMO AREA
Your Mount Bromo adventure begins with a convenient pickup from Surabaya, either from the airport or your hotel. From there, enjoy a scenic 3 hour drive through the lush countryside of East Java as you make your way to the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. On the way, you have the option to stop at the stunning Madakaripura Waterfall, one of Java’s tallest and most mystical waterfalls nestled in a narrow canyon. Please let me know before making a booking, because this waterfall is not always open due to high risk of fast flood.

This day sets the stage for an epic Mount Bromo tour, combining natural beauty, cultural charm, and adventure.

DAY 2: MOUNT BROMO TOUR – TRANSFER TO TUMPAK SEWU
Wake up early for one of the most iconic experiences in East Java — the Mount Bromo sunrise tour. Hop on a 4WD jeep and head to King Kong Hill, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Bromo, Mount Semeru, and the surrounding volcanic landscape as the sun rises. After sunrise, descend to the surreal Sea of Sand and begin a short trek to the edge of Bromo’s smoking crater, an unforgettable encounter with one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes. Return to your hotel for a well-earned breakfast and quick rest before continuing your journey. In the late morning, embark on a 4-5 hour scenic drive to the Tumpak Sewu Waterfall area, often hailed as the most beautiful waterfall in Java. DAY 3: TUMPAK SEWU WATERFALL TOUR – TRANSFER TO KALIBARU VILLAGE
Start your day with an exciting trek to the panoramic viewpoint of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, often called the “Niagara of Indonesia” for its wide, multi-stream cascade surrounded by lush jungle. From the viewpoint, descend along a moderately challenging trail to the base of the waterfall, where you can feel the raw power and mist of this natural wonder up close. For the adventurous, an optional visit to Goa Tetes Cave offers a chance to explore hidden chambers with mineral-rich drips and small waterfalls. After the trek, enjoy a scenic 5–6 hour drive through rural East Java to the peaceful Kalibaru Village, known for its plantations and cool mountain air. Arrive in the evening, check in to a cozy lodge, and enjoy a relaxing dinner amid the tranquil countryside setting.

DAY 4: MORNING HIKE TO MOUNT RAUNG – OVERNIGHT CAMP
On Day 4, gear up for a true East Java trekking adventure as you begin your Mount Raung expedition, one of Indonesia’s most challenging and rewarding volcano climbs. After an early breakfast in Kalibaru, meet your local mountain guide and porters, then begin your hike through dense tropical forests, remote trails, and rugged terrain. The trek to the basecamp takes approximately 6–8 hours (it can be shorter or longer depending on your fitness), offering a deep connection with nature and incredible views along the way. Once at the campsite, settle in for an overnight stay under the stars, surrounded by the pristine wilderness of the Ijen-Merapi rainforest area. Rest well — tomorrow you’ll summit Sejati Peak, the highest point of Mount Raung.

DAY 5: SUMMIT TO SEJATI PEAK – DESCEND TO KALIBARU (ARRIVAL ~10–11 PM)
Begin your summit push to Sejati Peak (3,344 meters) of Mount Raung in the early hours before dawn. This challenging climb involves steep ridges, rocky paths, and breathtaking high-altitude views, making it one of Java’s most thrilling volcano treks. Reaching the summit at sunrise rewards you with 360-degree panoramas of East Java’s volcanic landscape, a truly unforgettable moment for adventurous hikers. This is not easy trekking because, we will wear helmet, rope, carabiner and we will at he tiny paw one by one, so make sure no rush and dont push any rock, moreover always listen to the guide there.

After taking in the views and snapping photos at the top, begin your descent back to basecamp and continue the long trek down to Kalibaru. Expect to arrive in the village around 10:00–11:00 PM, where you’ll check into your accommodation for a well-deserved night’s rest. This is a demanding but incredibly rewarding day for seasoned trekkers.

DAY 6: LATE CHECK OUT – TRANSFER TO BANYUWANGI OR IJEN AREA
After the intense Mount Raung summit the day before, take the morning to relax and recover at your accommodation in Kalibaru. Enjoy a late check-out, a leisurely breakfast, and perhaps a short stroll around the peaceful village, known for its coffee and cocoa plantations. In the afternoon, continue your journey eastward with a comfortable drive to Banyuwangi or the Ijen Crater area (approx. 2–3 hours). This transition day gives you time to unwind before the final highlight of your adventure — the Ijen Crater hike. Upon arrival, check into your hotel near Ijen and rest up for another early morning trek.

DAY 7: IJEN CRATER HIKE – TRANSFER TO BALI
Wake up in the early hours for the unforgettable Ijen Crater sunrise trek, one of East Java’s most iconic natural attractions. Begin your hike in the dark with a local guide, reaching the crater rim just before dawn. If conditions allow, witness the rare blue fire phenomenon, followed by sunrise illuminating the stunning turquoise acidic lake of Kawah Ijen, framed by rugged volcanic cliffs and plumes of sulfur smoke. After exploring the crater and observing the traditional sulfur miners at work, descend the trail and return to your hotel for breakfast and a refreshing shower. Then it’s time to continue your journey with a scenic transfer to Bali Island, crossing the Bali Strait by ferry and driving to your accommodation in North or Central Bali. This marks the perfect ending to your East Java volcano trekking and adventure tour.
